The Ylikartano cultural sight in Retulansaari

    Welcome to the Ylikartano cultural sight website. Ylikartano is an old Häme-situated-estate in the former Tyrväntö-area, in Retulansaari, the greatest island of the lake Vanajavesi. The history is long and the cultural enviroment rich.

    Ylikartano organizes differend kinds of cultural functions, produces information and offers premises for both getting together and working for those who practice culture. Ylikartano's activity is based on the houses own traditions and its spirit. The appearence of the house and it's surrounding yard, possessions and its cultural surroundings are trying to be conserved as real as possible. It offers elements for many differend kinds of cultural activities with differend quarters of collaboration.

    Those intrested of being presented with Ylikartano and using it's premises may contact the managing director. At the moment there is a renovated multi-purpose space on the stables attic and, for limited use, the old main building's tupa ("the common hall"). The rooms of the old väentupa ("workers' quarters") i.e. the Alitupa were ready for the summer of 2006. It is suited for among others for meetings and other small events.

    Ylikartano is being presented to groups according to contract and during the summer the house's home-museum and the main building are also regularly open. Those interested of getting to know the house may contact managing director.

Ylikartano is owned by the Finnish Cultural Heritage Foundation (Suomen Kulttuuriperinnön Säätiö). Ylikartano's hoitokunta ("associasion of care" or "board") is in charge of caring for the propertys buildings, possessions and surroundings.
